giddy!
First, I want to say “thank you” for your precious comments on my last post! You will never know how much they mean to me….what beautiful friends I have!
now, can you say……….

This is my favorite Ironstone collection! Honestly, I’m weak in the knees just thinking about it! Why? Because this particular piece is near impossible to find and I have, count ‘em…SIX! Don’t get the impression that I think six is enough, by no stretch of the imagination would that be true! Since I’m a lover of odd numbers, I am on the prowl for a seventh! Tragic!
I’m pathetic, I know! I should get a life! And whatever you do, don’t tell my husband I get giddy over Ironstone! He might get the idea he is off the hook for future bling and THAT would be a shame!
And don’t I always have a story? Yes, (Debbie) I am my mother’s child! This Fall I had a scalloped cakestand for sale in Warrenton. Since I already had one I was semi-willing to let it go! As the days wore on and it sat there I began to feel-the-need to add it to my collection, after all, it was a little bigger than mine and I needed that odd number! Oh, and did I mention the beautiful back stamp it had? Don’t get me started!
I know this dealer named Donnie, can you believe I know his name?! Actually, that’s all I know about him except that there are nice people in the world and then there are NICE people in the world! Donnie is NICE! We share a fascination and true-love of Ironstone cakestands.
Last Spring Donnie was shopping at one of his regular dealers in the fields and they had an Ironstone cakestand! Price: $38, that’s thirty-eight! Oh yeah, and that was before his 20% discount! Part of me was thrilled-to-death for him and the other part was a jealous-wreck! Can you stand it? Yes, Donnie bought my cakestand! You know when you cost-average you can justify anything! Guilty!

The cracks and the crazing and the discoloration are so beautiful! I love all the imperfections! I like to think the piece I cherish today was enjoyed in its previous life. I like to think about it on a holiday table or at a family gathering. And I wonder who loved it before me. What did they look like, was it decorative or functional, what special dish did they use it for? And did any of their kids have dibs on it?

Seriously, how perfect is that crack?!

All that fabulous crazing and discoloration! Oh how it makes my heart go pitter-patter!

There you have it! Thanks for indulging me! Maybe the next post will be about compotes….there I go getting weak in the knees again!

Holy cow. Those top two are literally singing to me! Amazing. Watch out! I might have to start collecting these…hmmm At least I’ll keep an eye out. One of us could be very happy if I find one, huh? ~Mindy

Janet, what a beautiful collection. Wait until you see Donnie’s space at Uncommon Objects, he just moved in, oh la la, could have spent some serious bucks there! I’ll post it on late Friday or Saturday.

Your cute posts always take the cake…or cakestand! I count on you for some great stories that always either make me smile, laugh out loud or think! I love the word giddy. I don’t know if you know it or not, but now when a word pops in my head…I think of you! The one that’s been rolling around this week is melancholy…love it.
