Words. They are powerful little things. They can make you laugh with abandon, weep with joy or smile with contentment. Some words sound funny - like clinkety-clank. Other words just look funny - like giggle. And still other words can make your heart ache with yearning - like dream.

who are you?

Hang on because I’m about to “out” myself and let you all know about a little secret of mine….I am horrible with names! A dealer came into my space in Warrenton this Fall, introduced himself and we started visiting. Turns out we have mutual friends and a love of the same “look”. I decided in the midst of our conversation that at this very moment in time I was going to try really hard to work on names and I was going to start with him. It was early in the week and it seemed like a good idea!

We talked for maybe 10 or 15 minutes and when he got ready to leave I said “Okay now, you’re Seth, right?” If I could only capture with words the stunned look on his face and then that awkward moment of silence when I knew I had completely screwed up. And then the quiet passed and he said “Brian.” SETH, oh my gosh, did I just pull that out of my ***? I don’t know a single person named Seth! We both got a good laugh out of it and I called him “Seth” the rest of the week! And immediately abandoned my idea to work on names!

I hope no one will be offended when I simply don’t know your name. Most of the time I barely know my own! Perhaps I’ll just start calling everyone SETH!

In that spirit, I have a customer who has shopped with me for several years in Warrenton and she is so cute! She doesn’t look a day over 25 and she has a bunch of kids! Like four or five! Since I have zero kids anything over that seems like a “bunch” to me! In the course of learning about her, she told me that every day when she drops her kids off at school, as they get out of the car, she says to them: REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

Brilliant! I love that! So maybe I’m not so great at remembering names, but I think I’m pretty good at remembering who I am……..

I was born March 30, 1961, on my mother’s 31st birthday, in McAllen, Texas. As the baby, I netted the only non-family (first) name for which I am thankful! I love God, my country, my family and my kitty-kat “Sister”. I am shy, determined, resilient, caring, nice, fun, a clean freak, creative, painfully organized, loyal, sentimental, an incurable romantic, a bit of a loner, generous and I dabble in perfection. I have a great ability to dig deep…one more time. I believe in heaven, Jesus Christ as my personal saviour and that God answers prayers.

My favorite thing about me is my blonde hair. And until just a few years ago it was natural. Truth.

I am an all or nothing kinda girl. I’m either on or off, in or out, up or down. Moderation is not in my vocabulary. I can get just as excited about redecorating a room as I can about creating an Excel spread sheet. I would rather give than receive. I can follow a recipe but I am not creative in the kitchen. I think I’m far more domestic than I actually am. I am a complete and total optimist about only one thing: being well. I take life on full throttle. I’m not scared to look at who I am on a daily basis. I have seen my soul and I liked what I saw. I don’t hate anyone or anything, I consider that a waste of valuable time and energy.

I was raised to have integrity, be a hard-worker, conscientious, responsible, honest and law-abiding. And I am. Except that I am completely incapable of driving the speed limit and have total admiration for those who do!

I love turquoise jewelry, tulips, laughing, football, my tubbie, road trips, hanging with friends, the sound of a train in the distance, vanilla cokes from Sonic, fresh salads, watching the sun set, shopping, my vintage Louis Vuitton, sitting on the beach, flip flops, wearing my hair in pony tails, rain, people watching, a great tote, my UGG boots, massages, looking at my toes after a pedi and BIG bling. And all those vintage treasures you already know about. My favorite colors are pink and chocolate brown. Next is green. I love to ride bikes and I am really happy when I’m walking and happiest when I’m walking in a big city (like NYC!). Just as much as I love to travel, I love to be home amongst the things that bring me joy.

And on good days I can actually remember my own name, Janet Lynn.

Remember who you are. I absolutely love that. If I had kids, I’d steal that and tell them the same thing. David’s 16 yr old might think me odd, but maybe I’ll start it up with her.

As for who I am. I am quite certain this blank is not large enough. I love learning about who you are! I love that you have seen your soul and you like what you saw. I think that’s my fav. Ok. Nope. You being a Christian is the best. Love it! ~Mindy

You my dear friend, are awesome… I love that saying, “Remember who you are”. As time goes on and I try to remember the earlier days I remember more and more wonderful things about you and I know why you were my best friend… Love you girl!

Except for the parts about clean freak, organized and striving for perfection, you could have been describing me. Add to that stubborn, procrastinator, and a tad lazy and you’ve got me!
I heard once that at 30, you are what you want to be, but at 40 you’re who you’re supposed to be. I guess after 50, it’s too late to try and change. I am what I am and with God doing the driving, I am OK with me!
